What's NewAlternatives to foreclosure seminars schedule National Mortgage Settlement Update"...approximately 7,600 New Hampshire residents who lost their primary residence due an improper foreclosure process between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2011 should expect to receive notice by mail with important information about how to file a claim for funds under the National Mortgage Settlement." Legal Assistance - 5/14/13 Funding through the Attorney General's office under the National Settlement now provides for legal counseling and referral services. If you need legal assistance, please call LARC to speak with a foreclosure lawyer at this toll free number: 1-877-399-9995. A series of free legal clinics are being planned across the state. Housing Counseling Assistance - 5/14/13 A portion of the National Mortgage Settlement Funds has been awarded to New Hampshire Housing Finance Authority to support community-based organizations that are working with at-risk borrowers on alternatives to foreclosure, finding new housing arrangements or rebuilding credit. The $3.5 million award from the State Department of Justice and the Banking Department was approved by the Governor and Executive Council, as well as by the State Legislative Fiscal Committee. The funds provide a more robust statewide network of counseling agencies. A list of those agencies is published on this website. These funds cannot be used to pay-down or modify individual borrower's debt. If there are borrowers with immediate needs, they should call 2-1-1 or contact one of the counseling agencies that are currently operating in the state.
